The development
task was to create a "safe,"
hands-free headset that is ergonometrically
comfortable and aesthetic
from napkin sketch to full
production in 5 weeks' time.
With this incredibly tight
timeline requirement, the
DevelopmentDNA
methodology of Product Development
was deployed to not only get
the product to market on time,
but with value-added innovation
as related to cell phone radiation
reduction. Current hands-free
headsets on the market do aid
in the current radiation emission
issues compared to conventional
cell phone use. A little known
fact is that typical hands-free
headset's wire acts as an antenna,
allowing partial radiation emissions
to travel to the user's head.
Through Next-Step design and materials
sourcing, an innovative, cost-effective
RF cable technology was integrated
into the design, preventing radiation
from coupling onto the wire of
the headset that leads to the
body and head. The end result
was a rapid Product Development
turnaround that yielded an advanced,
distinctive design with value-added
user safety benefits over the
competition.
