The program's goal was to develop a Next Step, cost-effective design for an analyzer system with disposables, processing 200 tests per hour. A comprehensive Systems Analysis™ study was performed to define detailed criteria and objectives of the system. The following innovations resulted:

  • Structural Development:
    • subassembly/housing designs
    • superstructure and skin design
  • High Volume Disposables:
    • 200 capacity solid reagent bead packs
    • system's sample rack for varying diameter tubes
  • Industrial Design:
    • creating an aesthetic appearance conveying underlying technical advancements
    • innovating optimum anthropomorphic end-user interface
  • Ergonomics/User Interface:
    • optimize all ergonomics, including access to all components/disposables
  • Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering:
    • complete cost-effective mechanical and production execution

The incorporation of leading-edge design, engineering and manufacturing technologies resulted in a product (with disposables) of exceptional quality.
