MIDI, in addressing the LASIK market trends relating to an increasing number of procedures being performed tied to a decrease in revenue per procedure, was contracted to deploy its DevelopmentDNA™ product development procedure to discern the Next Step with follow-through prototype implementation and productionization deployment.
Through extensive interviews with ophthalmologists (and supporting staff) along with on-site anthropology studies in the surgical suite, clear development directive was established.
What resulted is a Next Generation system that:
- Encompasses the latest technology in laser based corrective eye surgery
- Decreases the cost per procedure through:
- An increase in the speed of patient set-up and positioning
- Substantial reductions in cost to manufacture in both the housings, superstructure, optics assembly and custom electronics boards
- Greater accuracy in positioning with enhances in electromechanical/electroptical techniques
- An aesthetic and HMI interface that minimizes patient apprehensiveness while conveying a strong identity of Next-Step
