In the process of developing the Next Generation LASIK System, through extensive Ophthalmologist interviews and surgical suite procedural observations, MIDI discerned, for it’s client, an auxiliary surgical system which would greatly enhance the microkeratome prepatory step, a step prior to LASIK treatment. This process traditionally involves partially slicing a thin layer of the cornea (≈150 microns) utilizing a mechanical blade. Through MIDI’s DevelopmentDNA™ development approach, unprecedented microkeratome design directives ensued. MIDI’s development and productionization of this system resulted in:
- The first bladeless, water jet based corneal cutting device.
- A system, which through the use of sterilized water, mitigates infections. Bladed methods are prone towards infecting the eye.
- Abrasionless cut, at surface level, in contrast to abraded blade cuts.
- A system which is significantly simpler and easier to sterilize between patient procedures.
- An ergonomically advanced handpiece interface, utilizing injection molded, high volume disposables, promoting a continuous revenue stream.
MIDI designed the new system with advanced HMI and aesthetics to convey the unspoken message of: UNPRECEDENTED |
