This
analytical manufacturer sought
to totally redesign the unit
for cost-reduction, design,
ergonomics, and assembly enhancement
to resolve and implement new
product features. An
extensive Systems Analysis study
was initiated to understand
the existing product and system.
The study ranged from analyzing
end-user requirements, engineering
requirements, manufacturing,
quality control, inventory and
shipping, as well as field maintenance.
A program was outlined which
resulted in objectives, design
parameters and design deliverables,
defined as follows:
- Dynamic
Housing Superstructure - Development of
a one-piece, gas-assist injection-molded
housing/superstructure (21-lb. shot).
- Optics
Bench - Redesigned in composites, eliminating
all previous aluminum castings/secondary
operations.
- Furnace
Redesign - Drastically easing operation
and adjustment safety.
- Carousel
- Redevelopment of same to expand the
analytical range of the instrument.
An outstanding
collaboration resulted in the
introduction of new manufacturing
techniques and procedures. A
case in point, whereby DevelopmentDNA™
methodology enabled outstanding
system design.
